Black Lake (Crno Jezero)

The lake is actually made up of 2 bodies of water, Veliko Jezero (Big Lake) and Malo Jezero (Little Lake) which are connected by a narrow strait that often dries up during summer. Row boats are available for hire in summer to explore the lake from a different perspective, and the lake is suitable for swimming in the summer months

There's a €5 entrance fee for entering Durmitor National Park, which includes access to the Black Lake. It is easily accessible from the town of Žabljak, which is about 3 km away. You can reach the lake by car, bicycle, or a pleasant walk from Žabljak

A 3.5 km well-marked trail circles the lake, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and forests. It’s a relatively easy hike, suitable for all fitness levels and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. Note that the trail can become very muddy after rains, making it challenging to navigate

The site can get crowded during the day, especially with tourist buses, though walking further tends to leave the crowds behind. A visit late afternoon or early evening is recommended to avoid crowds and enjoy a quieter experience
