Blue Cave

The Blue cave gets marketed as THE must-see spot in the bay and is a popular stop for speedboat tours departing from Kotor. Because the cave is on the open sea, tours are frequently cancelled if the wind is high. Even if the Bay of Kotor looks calm, the waves outside can be too dangerous to enter the narrow cave mouth

It's sometimes not possible to swim directly inside the cave for safety reasons (high waves or too many boats). There are several smaller, nameless caves nearby that are often less crowded and arguably just as beautiful, ask your skipper to peek into them and stop for a swim there

To see the famous "neon" effect, you must visit between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. If you go earlier or later, the water is still clear, but the vibrant "glow" is significantly duller

During peak hours in summer (July/August), there can be 5 to 10 speedboats inside the cave at once with their engines idling. The smell of gasoline fumes can get overwhelming and definitely ruins the "nature" vibe. The boat tours in the bay are still 100% worth it for the bay scenery and swim stops, just keep your expectations realistic about the Blue Cave itself
