Grebaje Valley

Grebaje Valley is one of the best base for exploring the Prokletije mountains and gives access to the most impressive day hikes. Most treks start from the Branko Kotlajić mountain hut, nestled deep within the valley. An easy half-day trek will take you to Volušnica (1,879m) and will offers amazing views on the Karanfili peaks. The route can be extended by ~2h to reach Popadija on the Albanian border

A more demanding route is the hike to Krošnja (2,165m). From there, you can venture to the needle-sharp peaks of the Karanfili (2,490m), though this section is significantly more challenging and quite exposed in some areas. For a simpler yet equally picturesque option, try the adjacent Ropojana Valley. Begin in Vusanje and follow the flat path to Jezerce Lake, which lies in a large basin at the valley's head, near the Albanian border. This 11km round trip takes around 4h to complete

While the nearby towns of Gusinje and Plav offer the highest number of accommodation options, you can rent a bungalow in the valley, where you’ll be surrounded by incredible scenery, grazing animals, and very little development. Alternatively, you can also camp in the valley for €3. There are a few restaurants at the valley's entrance where you can enjoy traditional food and Turkish coffee
