Herceg Novi

The best to start any exploration of Herceg Novi is its well-preserved Old Town, cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and numerous cafes, shops, and galleries. The main square is home a clock tower, called Sahat Kula, stands as one of the town's iconic landmarks. Expect hundreds of stairs!

Additional highlights include Kanli Kula, a 16th-century fortress offering panoramic views of the town and the bay (now converted into an open-air theater hosting concerts in summer), Forte Mare by the coast and the Spanish Fortress further up the hill, both also offering stunning views of the bay

The Pet Danica seafront promenade runs the entire 5-km length of the coast to Igalo. This is a nice strolling spot and the area where you’ll find the town’s liveliest restaurants, bars and cafés

The town features several small pebble beaches along the coast, as well as concrete platforms and staircases leading into the water. However, it is not considered the ideal beach destination in Montenegro. In summer, you'll find dozens of taxi boats offering trips to the beaches on the Luštica Peninsula or to the Blue Cave

The surrounding hills and mountains offer numerous trails for hiking and mountain biking. One of the most enjoyable excursions from Herceg Novi is the hike up to the Vratlo Pass (~3h30), passing through the village of Kameno and following the old Austro-Hungarian packhorse trail. The hike to the nearby Orjen mountain provides stunning views of the Bay of Kotor

A pleasant 20min walk east of town takes you to the Savina Monastery, which offers stunning coastal views. The monastery is also home to the Savina winery, where you can enjoy vineyard and cellar tours along with tastings
