San Giovanni Fortress

1,355 steps separates you from the best views of the bay. No visit to Kotor is complete without a hike to the top, especially at sunset when the town and bay are bathed in soft, golden light

The hike begins at Kotor’s city walls and continues upwards. You should allow ~90min to reach the top, not including the time you spend at the top. Make sure to stop at the Chapel of Our Lady of Health halfway up

There are actually two official entry points to the trail starting in the Old Town. Entrance fee is €15 per person. Since ticket office is open from 7AM to 8PM, you will not be charged if you hike very early in the morning for sunrise and make it down before 7AM

Another longer trail, the Ladder of Kotor trail, starts on Tabačina road, just outside the Old Town, near the River Gate (aka North Gate). About 45 minutes up, there is a small window in the fortress wall and you can crawl through this window to enter the fortress for free
