The San Giovanni Fortress (also called Kotor Fortress or St. John’s Fortress) is a magnificent fortification located high above Kotor at the very top of the city walls, offering a unique panoramic view of the bay
The walls you see today are primarily Venetian, but the fortifications were so well-designed that they successfully withstood multiple Ottoman sieges and even a British naval bombardment in 1813. The entire fortification system is nearly 4.5 kilometers long, making it one of the most impressive ancient "high-altitude" defensive lines in Europe.
