Piva Monastery

Originally located in the Piva Canyon, the monastery was meticulously relocated to its current location above Lake Piva to avoid flooding from the construction of the Piva Dam. This massive undertaking involved moving each stone and fresco to preserve the monastery’s historical and artistic integrity

The interior of the church is adorned with some of the most beautiful frescoes in the Balkans, painted by Greek and local artists in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. These frescoes depict biblical scenes, saints, and significant religious events with vivid colors and intricate details

The monastery also houses a valuable collection of manuscripts, books, and religious relics, some of which date back to the 13th century
